Private Equity – Property in Brazil

Project: Ecocil
Sector: Property
Region: Brazil
Investment: US$86million

In December 2008, Salamanca Group acquired 50 per cent of Ecocil, one of North East Brazil’s oldest and largest privately owned real estate development companies.

Ecocil has around BRL$4.19billion (c. US$1.14billion) of Gross Development Value (GDV) contained within its land bank and projects, and has the strongest brand recognition in Rio Grande do Norte.

Over the last 60 years, the company has delivered developments ranging from both affordable housing and high-end residences to infrastructure projects including stadiums, a traffic bridge and a water pipeline.

Our investment in Ecocil has continued to outperform expectations from a sales and management perspective.

Since Salamanca Group’s investment in 2008, Ecocil has launched 9 residential projects in Natal, the capital city of Rio Grande do Norte, representing c. 3,000 units and c. BRL$713million (c. US$194million) GDV. Our property development team has worked with Ecocil on a number of developments, becoming an integral part of the procurement processes and delivery.

In 2011, Salamanca Group increased the shareholding in Ecocil to 63 per cent through a further subscription of shares, which recapitalised the business for future growth.

In 2013, Ecocil was the winner of Prêmio Master Imobiliário.
