Challenges to Euro-Atlantic Security in 2018

31/01/2018

On Wednesday 31st January, the European Leadership Network (ELN) and Salamanca Group co-hosted the latest breakfast briefing part of the Strategic Insight series on “Challenges to Euro Atlantic Security in 2018”.

The event was chaired by ELN director Adam Thomson, who introduced the discussion before passing over to key note speakers: Sir Simon Fraser, former permanent secretary of the FCO and Kori Schake, the newly appointed Deputy Director of the IISS.

With Britain soon to be leaving the European Union, and most European minds still firmly focused on Brexit, the discussion opened debate as to where the UK would stand on the international stage following our exit in March 2019. Can Britain compensate with strengthening ties with other foreign markets like the US, and how will the EU continue to keep the US and the newly independent UK at the political table whilst prioritising its own sovereignty and agendas? Conversation also focused on the need to prioritise international attention on the rise of China and its future relationship with the rest of the world.

The next Strategic Insight breakfast focuses on the Franco-German motor. If you are interested in attending please contact i.tweed@salamanca-group.com.
